Syllabus

  1. 0
    Welcome
How the course is structured and what you'll be able to do at the end.
    5 min
    Ready
  2. 1
Why does neuroscience matter for a BA?
The brain treats social threats the same as physical ones. If you don't see this, you miss half of what happens in a meeting.
    20 min

  3. 2
    The SCARF model — overview
The 5 dimensions the brain treats as „social survival”.
    20 min

  4. 3
    S — Status
Perceived place in the hierarchy. The most sensitive dimension and the most often accidentally threatened — in refinement, demos, prioritization meetings, and stakeholder presentations.
    30 min
    Ready
  5. 4
    C — Certainty
Predictability of the future. In IT — scope changes, re-orgs, moved deadlines, deprecation announcements — ambiguity is the star threat.
    30 min
    Ready
  6. 5
    A — Autonomy
The sense of having control over my own work. In IT — over-prescriptive specs, micromanagement in standup, invaded calendar — are the 3 dominant forms of Autonomy theft.
    30 min
    Ready
  7. 6
    R — Relatedness
The sense of „I belong to this group”. In remote/cross-team setups, it's easy to be an „outsider” without realizing. The cost: nobody tells you what they actually think.
    30 min
    Ready
  8. 7
    F — Fairness
Perceived equity. In IT — scope prioritizations, promotion decisions, allocation of „interesting” tasks vs. „grunge work” — Fairness is the most powerful dimension when violated.

    Hands-on: Workshops without resistance
Before / during / after. SCARF applied at each stage of a workshop.

    Hands-on: Requirements interviews
How to get the stakeholder to tell you what they actually think — not what they think you want to hear.
